Preparations Continue!

One week left to go until the second Search for Spring tour starts.
I had to shovel another 30cm of Snow off the roof. The tarp that Alex and I installed after removing the previous one metre of snow was only a little helpful. The 3 inches of hard ice we couldn't move a week ago had been released by running the furnace for a week but did still leave very slippery little ice crystals all over the top of the trailer making the footing a little tricky at times. My son Alex was just across the driveway from me shoveling 120cm of snow off the roof of his house — this has been the most snowy winter here since the 70’s. The temperature has finally made it close to the freezing point the last couple of days and ice dams were forcing water into his plumbing stack and around his chimney. After this we moved the trailer out of this driveway and the 17km up to our place in Round Lake for final prep.
Rrainy and I now have a stupid busy week ahead. Grandparenting both kids Saturday while we work with the electrician on moving some facilities as part of the hardwood flooring project and starting to load the trailer. On Sunday we go into Ottawa for the Blue Rodeo concert in the middle of the next winter storm. Monday we’ll grandparent Bobby and load the trailer. Tuesday and Wednesday will be about finishing the first half of the hardwood project and loading up. Thursday we will be back to Ottawa for a National Arts Centre Pops concert. Somewhere in here I need to do two weeks of homework for my writing course, and file my income tax ( if HPE can get me my paperwork on time). Friday, March First, we will head straight south, weather permitting.
So far the weather looks good -- not perfect but good enough for a run to Binghamton.

  1. Taking a risk standing on the roof of your trailer.

    1. Not nearly so much as I would trying to drive with 3 feet of snow and 3 inches of ice on the trailer. It is designed to handle the weight ( mine and the snow). The risk of course is that you can’t see where the vents and covers are under the snow. Alex stepped on the bathroom vent and cracked it a little but that was an easy repair — and well worth his help. That was a lot of snow.
